Mariana Bravo

I was born and raised in Mexico City.  At the age of 18 I moved to Texas to attend school.  It was at TSTC in Waco that I met my husband David, who is originally from London, England.  We decided to make Texas our home and moved to Dallas in 1995 with our son Alan.

Growing up, art in many of its forms was an integral part of my life.  My mother, who was an accomplished oil painter, loved painting old churches, people and portraits.  I believe my self-expression as an artist has been shaped by her art, my upbringing and my diverse experiences.

I painted with oils for several years until 2017, when I began working with watercolors.  In 2020, searching for the rich combination of colors and textures of my childhood, I incorporated acrylics into my work.  I find inspiration in capturing people in their various moods, expressions, and situations.  I enjoy creating textural abstracts with bold colors and dramatic contrast, and I often incorporate them into my portraits.
